It's intersting that this video is captioned here when it's not captioned on television or on youtube/the Whitehouse. Deaf familes have members who serve in the military. AND, how many service members come back with hearing loss from explosives and the like? The White House tried to tell me that it wasn't their video, but the Red Cross's or some other organization. Hardly!

Gary, thanks for your message. The video is available on the White House's YouTube channel. You may need to scroll to the announce date to see--July 25. The video also includes captions, which can be activated by clicking the menu button located on the bottom right of the video player.

Can this award be retroactive? For example if the acomplishments were done in 2008-2009.
And can a active Duty soldier submitt his/her spouse?

Danitza, thanks for your questions. Any Soldier or service member may nominate someone, including his or her spouse, or an organization. The Joining Forces Community Challenge does seek to recognize ongoing efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of military families.
However, if the program, service, or accomplishments can be replicated or re-started, the Challenge sponsors would encourage a submission.
We will clarify eligibility on the web site. Thank you for raising this important question.
