Canines For Veterans - Canines for Service

Canines for Service has seen first-hand the difference that a quality-trained service dog can make in the lives of service men and women returning home as wounded warriors. Thanks to new technologies in armored vehicles, our men and women in service are increasingly coming home alive, but sometimes with disabilities. A service dog gives them independence, assisting with mobility, mitigating PTSD and quite literally, changing lives. Through our program called “Canines for Veterans,” Canines for Service (the name of our organization) has provided highly skilled service dogs to a total of 15 service members with disabilities. We work with the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig in Charleston, South Carolina with prisoners to train them as trainers for service dogs for disabled men and women, both in active duty and veterans. It gives the prisoners a chance to find new meaning in their lives and give something of great value to service members.
